The Safety Data Sheet

In this blog, we explain everything about the material safety datasheet (SDS or MSDS). We tell you how to find out if the safety sheet is correct, and provide clarity about the role of the SDS in online sales.

Check if your safety data sheet is correct

The supplier of a product containing hazardous substances is required to have a safety data sheet, which contains all sorts of information about the content, handling, and dangers of a substance or mixture. The sheet must meet a number of requirements and can be outdated, fortunately, you can check if the safety data sheet is correct in a number of steps.

  • Start by requesting the most recent safety data sheet from the supplier of products with a GHS label
  • Once you have received the safety data sheet from your supplier you can use vib-check.nl to check step by step if the sheet is correct. This handy Dutch government tool is specially developed to test the correctness of a safety data sheet in a number of steps.

Is displaying the safety data sheet on your website sufficient?

Although the safety data sheet is filled with all the important information and it is mandatory to provide it in case of b2b sales, it is only seen as supplementary on your website when selling to consumers. Merely displaying the safety data sheet on your website is therefore not sufficient. When your safety data sheet is correct, you can easily upload it to the Veiligvertoon plug-in for a specific product and Veiligvertoon will translate it to the correct safety information for the consumer. If you do not have the safety data sheet yet, you can also read the hazard statements from the label of the physical product and then select them in the Veiligvertoon dashboard. These hazard statements are then immediately supplemented with the correct information so that your webshop is ready to continue sales right away. Try Veiligvertoon for WordPress
